Galaxy Note 7 has one of the brightest smartphone displays ever

One of the strongest aspects of Samsung smartphones over the past couple of years has been the display. Regardless of size, these Quad HD Super AMOLED panels have proved to be fantastic both indoors and out. With the Note 7 however, Samsung is really taking things up a notch with the brightness levels as, according to DisplayMate, the Note 7 has the brightness smartphone display they’ve ever tested…

With a maximum brightness of 1,048 nits, the Note 7’s display should be easily visible even in near direct sunlight. By comparison, the Note 5 can achieve a maximum brightness of 861 nits and the Galaxy S7 can hit 855 nits at peak levels.

Keep in mind, though, that this peak brightness level won’t always be accessible. When you turn the brightness up to 100% the display won’t hit 1,048 nits, but rather it will stay at a lower level to avoid any excessive battery drain on the display.

Where the phone will hit peak brightness is when there is excessive ambient light in the area. So when you’re in direct sunlight or in a room with bright lighting, the phone can use its ambient light sensors to turn up the brightness all the way to the peak level. Unlike most smartphones, the Note 7 actually uses two ambient light sensors, one on each side of the device.
