Snapseed update adds new Face, Perspective, and White Balance tools on Android

Snapseed 2.9 is rolling out today on Android with a number of features, including new Face, Perspective, and White Balance tools. The app also includes some new animations and the ability to customize the file format and compression rate when exporting.

All the new tools use the same vertical and horizontal swipe UI that Snapseed is known for. The new Face tool only works if there is a person in an image and otherwise takes users back to the main editing menu. It helps bring focus to faces, smooth skin, and adds clarity to eyes.

The new Perspective tool brings much more fine tuned controls when straightening an image and allows you to remove the perspective effect from images. Additionally, fine color balance control is now possible with pinpoint precision thanks to the new White Balance tool.

Besides new animations when opening menus, Settings now includes the option to set the format and quality of exported images. Users can choose from lossless PNG or JPG in 100%, 95%, or 80%.

The update is rolling out now and the full changelog is below:

  • New Face tool: A photographic tool that helps you bring focus to faces, smoothen skin, and add clarity to eyes.
  • New Perspective tool: Straighten lines in your images by removing the perspective effect from the original images. New UI with more intuitive and flexible control.
  • New White Balance tool: Fine color balance control with pinpoint precision via an eye dropper tool.
  • Set the preferred JPG compression rate, or even save lossless (PNG) when exporting.
