Instagram’s long overdue photo zoom feature is already rolling out to some Android users

Instagram is a great platform, but sometimes it’s the little things that really take away from the experience. With a photo-centric service, you’d think Instagram would cover all of the basics, but the app, regardless of platform, has never supported zooming in on photos. Just a couple days ago Instagram announced that zoom functionality was finally available for iOS users, but it seems that it’s already showing up for some Android users.

In its announcement post, Instagram revealed that pinch-to-zoom functionality would be available for iOS users that same day. Android users, on the other hand, would have to wait for the feature to arrive “in the coming weeks”. It’s unclear what is causing some users to already have the functionality on Android (via Android Police), but it does seem like this is a switch on Instagram’s end, so sideloading a newer version of the app won’t enable it.

Zoom, of course, works just as you think it would, and you can even see it in action thanks to one Google+ user who recorded the feature in action on his device. For the time being, you’ll just have to wait, zoom is coming, eventually…
