Android Basics: How to turn on automatic app updates

One of the best ways to keep your Android phone or tablet secure is by making sure all of your applications are updated. By doing this, you’re helping to eliminate vulnerabilities within apps that could be exploited and used to harm your device in one form or another. Additionally, by having automatic updates turned on, you are sure to get the newest features as soon as they roll out…

When enabling automatic application updates on your device, you will be able to select one of the following options: do not auto-update apps, auto-update apps at any time, or auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only. The following steps will walk you through turning on automatic updates:

  1. Open the Google Play Store application
  2. Click on the Menu button in the upper left-hand side of the screen
  3. Scroll down to Settings
  4. Under General, tap on Auto-update apps
  5. A pop-up dialog will load and offer you three options. Select whichever one fits your needs
