Over the years Google has gone through over a dozen different dessert names for Android including everything from Donuts to Jelly Beans to Marshmallow and more. This year Google released Android N, Nougat, and it wasn’t the choice we all expected. Nougat isn’t exactly the most famous sweet treat that starts with an N, but that’s not true everywhere in the world…

In Southeastern France lies the city of Montélimar, otherwise known as the world capital of Nougat. Despite its small population of just 35,000, Montélimar has been famous for its specialized production of nougat since the 18th century with its unique honey & almond style. In that one city alone 300 local candy makers prepare over 4.5 tons of “Nougat de Montélimar” each year.

Now with Google naming the latest version of Android after the dessert, it only seems fitting to honor this small city, and that’s exactly what Google decided to do with a special Android statue which was unveiled in Montélimar today.

The new statue is similar to the one currently found at the Google Campus, but this time with the piece of Nougat being held up by the famous Android Bugdroid. The city’s mayor, Franck Raynier, had the following to say regarding the unveiling:

Today we’ll be able to give a much more modern image to nougat, thanks to Google, because the new version of their Android OS is called Nougat. So we can reach out to a younger generation, a more connected generation, who will ask themselves ‘hey, what’s nougat?’, and then they’ll search nougat and they’ll find that the world capital of this candy is Montélimar  in France and so for us it’s an extraordinary opportuinity.

Google also had a spokesperson at the even who, when speaking to AFP News Agency, reiterated that Google had picked the name nougat from fans who had submitted proposals for what Android’s N release would be called earlier this year. You can hear that full statement in the video below.
