Google is teaming up with Runtastic to offer Play Music integration on Android

Everybody loves some good music to go with their running or workout sessions, that’s science. However, given the wide array of workout-related apps and the vast selection of music services and streaming programmes, it’s nice to see proper integration between the two things.

And if that’s what you’re looking for, it sounds like Google and Runtastic have an answer for you…

Starting today, users of the Runtastic app will have access to a wide array of workout playlists “to suit any mood or activity” curated directly by the wizards over at Google Play Music.

That means that whether you’re running freely on the road or at the gym, Play Music will have you covered, and, naturally, all within the Runtastic app, which will let you play, pause and skip tracks in a dedicated window at the bottom of its UI, specifically designed to be sufficiently big, accessible and easy to read at all times.

As per Google’s own blog post:

Keep pace with Today’s Running Hits featuring songs that are all over 130 beats per minute, embark on a Sweaty EDM Workout, or kick it up a notch with some High-Energy Hard Rock; the choice is yours. This new app feature is available in more than 60 countries around the world where Google Play Music is available.

It also looks like Google will offer a selection of “music trials” to all Runtastic users, both on Android and iOS, allowing them to “create [their] own playlists and access Google Play’s library of more than 40 million tracks from your favorite artists to stream and enjoy ad-free.”

It is not yet clear what kinds of “trials” Google is referring to here, but we will let you know as we learn more. To start listening, open the Runtastic app’s music section and enjoy your workout.
