Samsung’s Galaxy S8 said to have ‘slick’ design, better camera, an ‘enhanced’ AI service

In a Wall Street Journal story from this morning about Samsung’s hopes to finally move on from this Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung’s mobile-communications vice president, Lee Kyeong-tae, of course dropped some buzzwords about the company’s forthcoming Android flagship…

Really, none of it is surprising. Lee told WSJ that the next major refresh of its “S” series will feature a “slick design and an improved camera, as well as an enhanced artificial-intelligence service,” according to the report. The first two are unsurprising and mean practically nothing considering that pretty much every phone maker claims slick designs and improved cameras year after year.

The mentioned “enhanced artificial intelligence service” might be interesting, although that’s definitely a vague statement. As the WSJ mentions, this is notable in like of Samsung’s recent acquisition of the Viv AI bot from the makers of Siri. Samsung wouldn’t comment on the record, however, if Viv tech would make its way to the S8, and personally I think that’s unlikely considering how far along the phone probably already is.

Beyond speculating about this AI feature, the latest Weibo-sourced rumors — which definitely aren’t always the most dependable in the world of rumors — say that the Galaxy S8 will bring a 5.5-inch panel at 4K resolution — corroborating previous reports — and 6GB of RAM. These specs aren’t a stretch by any means, and considering the S8 will almost surely be Daydream, 4K panels make more sense than ever.
