Google marks Night Mode ‘bug’ for Nexus devices as ‘future release’ after feature disappeared

Android Nougat brings a lot of new features to the table, but sometimes it’s the little things that really make software great. One of those little things in Nougat was Night Mode. It first popped up in the developer previews and remained hidden just under the surface, but in 7.1, it was blocked completely and left only on Pixel devices.

For obvious reasons, Nexus users felt left out with this move, but many just chalked it up as another exclusive feature. Google explained its absence on Nexus devices by stating that it was due to the hardware on Nexus devices, but some users didn’t want to accept that. In certain cases, some users submitted the feature’s absence as a bug, and Google has acknowledged one of those.

One of the threads from a bug report has since been marked as a “future release,” although Google has yet to shed any light on what that means. It could mean that Google is actively working on bringing night mode to other devices, Nexus included, but we don’t know for sure. If Google is bringing this feature to Nexus devices, I’d wager we’ll see it when Android 7.1 officially rolls out but again, we don’t know that for sure.
