Latest Twitter for Android beta includes QR codes and scanner for seamless following

Earlier this week, Twitter added a bevy of anti-abuse features including improved muting and easier ways to report tweets. With the latest beta version of the Android app, Twitter is about to give each profile a QR code for an easier way to follow…

Sliding out the navigation drawer reveals a new QR scanner underneath the toggle to activate Night mode. Tapping it opens up a camera to scan one with an option to import saved codes already in your gallery.

After scanning, a quick summary instantly pops up featuring the account description and profile/header image. There is also a button to quickly follow the account from the summary.

Your own QR code can be accessed from the camera or by going into your profile and tapping the overflow menu in the upper right corner. The code itself features your profile image in the center and the Twitter logo in the bottom right. Its accent color changes every time you pull up your code. A share buttons allows you to save the image to your gallery or share via another app.

While the @ handle is already very ubiquitous in advertising and in the real world, QR codes are arguably a much more seamless way to find and follow a profile. Helped especially by Snapchat and Facebook Messenger, most consumers are now well aware of them and how to use them.

Currently in beta (6.24), this feature should be live by next Monday in the stable channel.
