Android Basics: How to mirror your Daydream experience onto a television

With VR experiences like Google’s Daydream, you get to immerse yourself into a virtual world by strapping a phone onto your face. As elegant as that may sound, there’s still a chance that you might want to share everything that you’re seeing with those around you — especially during the holiday season. Thankfully, if you have a Chromecast or Android TV in your home, you can easily mirror your display on the big screen…

How to mirror your display using Google Cast:

  1. Make sure your Chromecast or Android TV is set up and that your phone is on the same WiFi network
  2. Navigate to the Google Home application
  3. Tap on the menu icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen
  4. Select the Cast screen/audio option
  5. Your phone should now find all available Chromecast-capable devices on your network. Pick one and your phone’s display should be mirrored onto the corresponding television
  6. Insert your phone into a Daydream headset and enjoy the virtual reality experience. Others around you should be able to see everything happening in your virtual world
  7. When you are done, simply pull down your notification shade and select the option to turn off the casting feature
