The Gionee M2017 offers a massive 7,000 mAh battery, dual-curved edges [Gallery]

The Android market in China sometimes turns up some, interesting smartphones, and today, Chinese OEM Gionee has debuted the M2017. The M2017 brings along a fairly hefty price tag, but it also brings a unique and interesting design, as well as some standout specs.

Up front, there’s a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display with curved edges on either side, similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge. There’s also a fingerprint sensor up front, capacitive navigation, and a pretty interesting design all around. Gionee is definitely targeting a premium market with this phone, and the looks certainly match that.

Powering this device you’ll find an octa-core Snapdragon 653 and up to 6GB of RAM. As far as storage goes, you’ll get 128GB of storage along with 4GB of RAM, and 256GB with 6GB of RAM. The device is also running on top of Android Marshmallow with Gionee’s ‘Amigo’ UI version 3.5.

The real storage, however, is the massive 7,000 mAh battery. Few smartphones today crest 4,000 mAh, so it’s needless to say that this is a pretty impressive offer. To reach that total, Gionee packs two 3,500 mAh battery inside of the phone, both of which charge via Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 through the USB-C port.

On paper this looks like a pretty impressive device, but it’s going to be limited to a China-only release, at least for now. There it will sell for ¥ 6999 or about $1,000 USD.
