Amid smartphone lines, and important ones in particular, no one has ever experienced such a tragic event like the Galaxy Note 7‘s spontaneous self-combustions.
A fair amount of people took it for granted that Notes would be gone for good — at least brand-wise — but apparently Samsung is looking to retain both the technologies and the name itself…
As per a Business Korea report, the electronics giant has decided not to dump the Galaxy Note brand. It’s not clear whether the recently-concluded investigations on the Note 7 have boosted confidence in the company, and it certainly won’t be easy for them to convince a good chunk of customers again anyways, but a Note 8, apparently, will still happen.
“The Galaxy Note 7 was very popular before user reports began circulating about devices that exploded or caught on fire while charging. As the phablet market, which was developed by Samsung Electronics, has been growing, the company will release the Note series this year again,” BK reports, claiming that these are words of an (unnamed) “official from the electronics industry”.
The piece also goes on speculating about specs, namely the screen, which will apparently mark Samsung’s debut in the mobile 4K space, as the Galaxy S8 should seemingly stick to a QHD panel. The move, it is said, will be made to push VR even further: “Samsung will introduce 2K resolution displays in the Galaxy S8, but it will use 4K resolution displays in the Galaxy Note 8 to realize improved VR functions. I heard that it will connect with new Gear VR wearable.”
Of course, the AI assistant “Bixby” will make its (prominent) appearance on this device, too. All in all, we just hope that Samsung will produce a Note 8 that the market deserves, which is one as good as it is safe.
