Google I/O 2017 will be held at Shoreline Amphitheatre May 17-19

In a somewhat non-traditional manner, Google has today made official the dates and location for Google I/O 2017. This year’s developer conference will take place, once again, at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, and will be three days: May 17, 18, and 19.

Google put its new I/O website online earlier today, but has yet to add any information about Google I/O 2017. This is the 11th Google I/O developer conference, and the second time that the conference has been held at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Most years over the last 10, the event has been held as Moscone Events Center in San Francisco, but the popularity of I/O outgrew that venue in recent years.

Notably, this announcement is contrary to what we heard from TechCrunch earlier this year — that this year’s I/O would mark a return to the usual location.

Since the event is once again taking place at Shoreline, we can expect that attendance will once again be a bit higher than it would be at Moscone. The chances of getting tickets for one of the many years I/O was held at Moscone were slim, but last year a much larger percentage of developers and press were able to attend. In all likelihood, we’ll have at least a couple people on the ground ourselves!
