The launch of Android Wear 2.0, LG ‘Watch Sport,’ ‘Watch Style’ moved to Feb. 8

We are now less than a week away from the rumored release date of Android Wear 2.0. This comes after Google delayed the official release of the wearable operating system that we got our first look at last summer at Google I/O. The official announcement was rumored to take place on February 9, but now we are hearing that Google has moved up their timeframe and will release the final build of Android Wear 2.0 and LG’s brand new smartwatches on February 8…

The news of the date change comes from the famed leaker, Evan Blass. Blass was the individual who originally leaked the February 9 date for the release of Android Wear 2.0 and his knowledge on LG’s watch offerings has been pretty spot on up until this point.

To recap, the Android Wear 2.0 update is going to move smartwatches away from being dependent on our smartphones. This means standalone apps with the addition of its own Google Play Store, support to do more over Wi-Fi and cellular radios, a complete redesign of its user interface, and so much more that you can read about here.

LG’s new smartwatches — made in conjunction with Google — will be the Watch Sport and Watch Style. The Sport will be the bigger and more rugged of the two watches and is rumored to come with cellular connectivity. The Style will be the smaller of the two featuring a 42mm watchface but will only be able to use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to receive data. Both of these watches will have a physical button that is rumored to also act as a digital crown for navigating the watch’s interface as well as Google Assistant built-in.
