1. Decide what button layout you want
By default, when you first take your brand new Galaxy S9 or S9+ out of the box, your navigation buttons will be set up left to right as Recents, Home, and Back. This is a trend that Samsung first started with old Galaxy handsets that used capacitive buttons.
Thankfully, since the Galaxy S8, you can swap the order of the Back and Recent buttons so that they are in the same order as any other Android smartphone. Unfortunately, there are only limited layouts that you can choose from, so it’s either the default way or with the buttons set up as Back, Home, and Recents from left to right.
2. Swap the Back and Recents buttons
First, head into the phone’s Settings by pulling down on the notification tray and tapping on the gear icon. Next, locate Display and select it. Inside, you should find an option to customize the Navigation bar.
In this submenu, find Button layout. Here, you will be presented with the two different orders in which you can choose to have your navigation buttons be in.
Additionally, in the Navigation bar submenu, you can also change the navigation bar’s background color and the amount of pressure needed to “hard press” the home button.
