How to turn off Google’s personalized ads

To serve you relevant ads that might be more enjoyable than off-topic items, Google’s ad network tracks your internet usage. Thankfully, you can quickly turn this personalization feature off, just know that you will no longer see ads based on your interests.

How to turn off Google’s personalized ads

After the fallout of Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica ordeal and the rollout of the EU’s GDPR, Google revamped its ad settings website. With the change, instead of a bunch of legal speak and confusing options, there is primarily only one thing on the page, and that is the toggle to allow or disallow personalized ads.

The new Google Ad Settings website and the option to turn off personalized ads can be seen below. Directly under it, there is an advanced section gives users an additional layer to select from. Which this option checked, Google can use your activity and browsing habits while using its services.

Lastly, if you scroll down the page, you will see the different categories Google believes you fit into and uses this data to serve you ads. This includes your age range, sex, websites you have visited, type of news you are interested in, and much more.
