During an event this week, MediaTek unveiled its newest chip: the MediaTek Dimensity 9000
The company's most powerful chip to date is based on 4nm technology. This makes it the first 4nm chip for smartphones.
MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9000 is 35% more powerful than the Snapdragon 888. On top of that, it also claims to get 35% more GPU performance out of the Dimensity 9000.
While the chip can access 5G, it will use the sub-6 variant only, leaving out the ultra-fast mmWave that's used in some major US cities.
MediaTek also claims that the Dimensity 9000's multicore score is right up there with Apple's A15 chip found in the iPhone 13.
As far as AI goes, the Dimensity is also touted as better than Tensor, beating Google's AI-focused chip by 16%.
It is worth mentioning that the Dimensity 9000 also beats out Apple's latest chips by 66% in the AI category, again, according to MediaTek.
It'll be interesting to see how this new processor holds up in the real world, and how well it holds up to Qualcomm's future Snapdragon offerings.
Qualcomm is set to debut a new Snapdragon chip in the coming weeks. While most Dimensity 9000 benchmarks were in comparison to one of Qualcomm's existing chips - the Snapdragon 888 - there's a good chance it may have a hard time standing up to whatever Qualcomm announces next.
