So, you’ve managed to get early delivery of a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, what’s the first thing you do with it? Try your best to destroy it is the answer from a couple of YouTubers out there.

JerryRigEverything put the device through scratch, burn and bend tests, while EverythingApplePro pitched the smartphone against Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus to see how it fared when submerged in water and dropped on the ground …

The tl;dwatch version is that the S7 Edge didn’t do perfectly on the scratch test, but certainly put in a very creditable performance. The bend test meant the back casing opened up, so wave goodbye to the waterproofing, but otherwise it acquitted itself well. It got top marks in the underwater test, even remaining completely usable whilst submerged.

It didn’t fare quite so well in the drop test, the glass back shattering when dropped from head height while the iPhone merely picked up a few scuffs and dents. The screen did survive, though. Unsurprisingly, you don’t want to try to set fire to the screen …
