Google casually announces it's working on Steam for Chrome OS

By Andrew Romero & Aber Li

Steam for Chromebooks has been a long time coming. Fortunately, it looks like the ability to play Steam games on Chromebooks is finally in progress.

While there aren't many details available, we do know that Steam for Chrome OS is in the works and in its alpha stage.

Something else we came across last month is the list of devices compatible with Steam Alpha since the program will be limited in capacity.

A few of those devices include the Acer Chromebook 514, 515, and the Spin 713. ASUS also graces the list with the Chromebook Flip CX5 and CX9.

Google said at minimum, Chromebooks need to have an 11th gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and at least 7GB of RAM.

That spec requirement alone eliminates most Chromebooks except those in the upper-mid range and above.
