Chromecast with Google TV gets its first update of 2022

By Abner Li & Ben Schoon

The Chromecast with Google TV is one of the best streaming devices you can buy, but it has been neglected for a while.

It's been over six months since the Chromecast with Google TV last saw a full system update, leaving the device stuck on an outdated security patch and Android 10 under the hood.

While the latest update doesn't bring Android 12 with it as many were hoping, it does bring some welcome improvements...

First and foremost, the security patch has been updated to May 2022, a leap forward of several months from the previous update.

Other changes include:  - Better 4K HDR and DRM support for apps  - Bug fixes  - Wi-Fi and Bluetooth improvements

You'll need at least 140mb of free space to install the update, something that's admittedly pretty hard on the Chromecast...

Of course, the Chromecast with Google TV has seen other changes over the past couple of years. New features added recently include Profiles and a new screensaver.

After two years, the Chromecast with Google TV also just launched in India. You can see more about that by swiping up!

Plus, there's also a new update that lets Google's game service, Stadia, work a bit better on the Chromecast...
