The OnePlus 13R is launching alongside one of the most anticipated flagships of the year. The Android 15 phone comes as a mid-range device following a very successful predecessor, which leaves a lot to be expected for a price point a lot of users can get behind.
The last year has been excellent for OnePlus. The company has proven it can release a competitive foldable device alongside a lineup of slab-style Android phones that perform extremely well. The OnePlus 12R was a phenomenal success. It blurs more of that line that divides mid-range devices with flagship offerings. The OnePlus 13R is launching right into high expectations, but its spec sheet paints an optimistic picture.
The OnePlus 13R takes on a familiar design with a couple of notable changes. The edges are now boxed off, leaving a 90-degree bend where glass panels meet the aluminum chassis. The front 6.78-inch display is now a flat ProXDR display instead of a curved one. Gorilla Glass 7i is being used in this display to improve durability. The panel is also capable of reaching up to 120Hz, much like the previous version.
Underneath the panel sits a couple of promising components. The OnePlus 13R houses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. While it isn’t exactly the newest on the market, it’s by no means something to ignore in a budget device. This same SoC is the one found in the Galaxy S24 Ultra and will continue to perform phenomenally in years to come. That chip is paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. To top it off, OnePlus has fit the phone with a 6,000mAh battery insulated battery, which means users should expect longer battery life through daily use.
Users should also expect to be able to capture some really good shots, as was the case with the 12R. The phone equips an array of 50MP cameras for main wide-angle shots and telephoto captures. An additional 8MP ultrawide camera is present, as well. The main shooter uses Sony’s new LYT-700 sensor.
The device itself is IP65 water and dust-resistant. The rating is acceptable, but it doesn’t;t mean it can handle what other flagships might be able to. Small splashes might be okay, but the phone likely can’t handle being submerged.
OnePlus is launching the 13R globally starting today. The phone will come in Nebula Noir and Astral Trail, starting at $599/$849 in the US and Canada, respectively — £679 /€749 in Europe. That price point generally means a lot of cut corners, but we’re expecting something a little more powerful from OnePlus this year.
