Wikipad announces the Gamevice, a detachable game controller for Android devices

Recently, we’ve been taking a look at some game controllers for the iPhone over at 9to5Mac, such as offerings from Logitech and Moga. Now another company is looking to get into the market, but this time with Android. Today, Wikipad announced its new Gamevice controller for Android devices. The device is a detachable controller, similar to those made for the iPhone (via Android Central). The Gamevice fully encloses your Android device, allowing only access to the screen.

Wikipad hopes that the controllers are familiar and comfortable to those that play console games. The Gamevice will feature dual analog sticks, a D-pad, four analog action buttons, and both L1/R1 and L2/R2 analog buttons.

The issue here, as with a lot of things Wikipad announces, is that we don’t know when the Gamevice will be released, what devices it will support, or how much it will cost. Wikipad will not have the device at CES next week, nor does it even have a prototype to show. The image above is simply a mockup of how the company expects it to look.

Nevertheless, we’re certainly intrigued by Wikipad’s concept. Mobile gaming is certainly an area that has become an intense focus for companies, so it will be interesting how, or if, Gamevice-like devices catch on.
