Google adds 64-bit Chrome support to its Windows Canary channel

Today, Google announced 64-bit Chrome support for Windows 7 and 8 users. Available through Mountain View’s Canary and Dev channels, these new additions will provide users with an enhanced browsing experience that improves Chrome’s speed, security and stability. In order to take advantage of Google’s new offerings, you’ll need to have a system capable of running 64-bit software, so make sure your setup is up to the task before clicking that install button.

However, if you’re good to go and decide to upgrade to this sharper version of Chrome you’ll notice a performance boost when dealing with multimedia content, along with a more stable showing. In addition to a faster, more reliable experience, the 64-bit version of Chrome offers the latest security features for Windows that stand up to exploiting techniques like JIT spraying.

If you decide to make the jump to 64 bits, remember that this is available through Chrome’s Canary and Dev channels, so you may encounter a hiccup or two along the way. But we’re sure you already knew that.
