T-Mobile announced today that it will soon introduce a new Pay As You Go prepaid plan that offers one flat rate on talk and text minutes as well as the ability to purchase daily and weekly passes for LTE data. The carrier hopes the new plan will simplify the experience of prepaid, pay as you go plans by making the per minute cost the same for all customers while simultaneously lowering the minimum amount users have to spend each month.
Under the new plan users get talk and text $0.10/minute, which T-Mobile claims is “the lowest ‘pay as you go’ offer in the industry, amongst major nationwide carriers.” Users will also only have to spend a minimum $3 a month (30 minutes of talk or text) to keep an account active:

Historically, T-Mobile’s Pay as You Go plan has been difficult to understand. The per minute/message amount customers paid, varied greatly on how much money customers preloaded. This made it tough to know how much a call would cost and when you needed to reload, so that your account would remain active. Not to mention, Pay as You Go customers could not add data to their plans.
This compares to T-Mobile’s old pay as you go offers that ranged from a minimum $10 for 30 minutes of talk up to $100 for $1000 minutes. The various tiers also lasted for a varying periods of time from 90 days to 1 year with rates ranging from 33 cents/min to 10 cents depending on the tier. The old plan also used to charge users 10 cents per text message and 25 cents per picture and video sent via text.
As for data passes, users will now be able to add 4G LTE data for $5/day (up to 500 MB LTE data), or $10 for 7 days (up to 1GB LTE data).
The new pay as you go plans will kick in August 17.
