Nvidia Shield Tablet getting Android 5.0 Lollipop on November 18th

Lollipop is here and the Nvidia Shield Tablet will be among the first group of non-Nexus devices to make the jump to Android 5.0. Today, the company announced that its gaming slate will receive the software push on November 18th, along with a few other improvements to its in-house applications.

The tablet’s Dabbler drawing app will receive new features like layers, stencils, color creations and live sessions over Twitch. Additionally, the Shield Hub is getting an overhaul to match Lollipop’s Material Design and the device will also receive access to Nvidia’s Grid cloud-based game streaming service.

It’s great to see Nvidia actively supporting the Shield tablet with the latest Android software. The device received fairly positive reviews and has been referred a solid gaming platform that might need a little work for more of a balanced experience. By keeping its tablet up to date with the latest offerings from Google, Nivida’s $300 mobile rig may eventually win people over this holiday season.
