Protecting your phone is key to preserving enough of its resale value to upgrade a year or two from now — a like-new condition phone will get you the best possible trade-in price. The smartest option: Speck’s CandyShell or MightyShell cases. “Designed for Impact” and available in all-new styles, Speck’s CandyShell cases have a perfect combination of great looks, protection, and accessory compatibility, letting you enjoy full use of your phone along with excellent protection.
We’ve checked out Speck’s latest cases series, and they’re certainly impressive. Each one-piece case is made with two bonded layers — one soft, one hard — together creating a snug fit and incredibly easy installation. But unlike competitors, the CandyShell cases have almost no bulk, keeping your phone nearly as thin it would be without a case. MightyShell adds additional ruggedized protection for better-than-military-grade shock absorbency. Below, you’ll get a look at Speck’s latest CandyShell and MightyShell versions with great prices, available to order today…
CandyShell + The CandyShell Family
There are four different variations on the CandyShell to choose from for Android devices, including phones from Samsung, HTC, LG, and other major manufacturers. The basic CandyShell ($34.95+, shown above) is Speck’s original version of the case, a one-piece design combining a glossy hard plastic exterior with soft rubber-like plastic lining. It comes in a variety of different colors that vary based on the specific phone you have, but typically including neutral white and black alongside two or three other colors.
Every CandyShell model includes MIL-STD-810G anti-drop protection so you do not need to worry about your device, and we’ve tested them – phones are safe when inside these cases. They also have 1.5mm raised bezels that protect your phone’s screen from direct drops and scratches, a feature we’ve used and loved for years. Some can remove phones’ slippery textures, and they all do a great job of protecting your device’s buttons. If great protection wasn’t enough, you also get your choice of cool designs that let you see your device’s body or cover it in a color that matches the front screen bezel. Here are your choices.
CandyShell Inked
If you love CandyShell but want some more style, CandyShell Inked is the easiest way to step things up. We were especially impressed with the patterns and image print quality of this case, which wraps your choice of art patterns around the back and edges of your phone. Speck’s Inked cases have a durable coating that resists scratch damage. You can buy CandyShell Inked for $44.95.
CandyShell Grip
CandyShell Grip is here to help you if you’re concerned about dropping your phone, or securing it when it’s being held by its edges as a camera. We love the high-quality grippy material on this line of cases, which is built into the core of each CandyShell in a way that continues to look great over time. They still slide in and out of pockets with ease, but the rubbery TPU adds just enough extra grip to counterbalance slippery hands. It’s also a great way to feel your phone when it’s deep inside a purse or backpack. You can buy CandyShell Grip for $34.95.
MightyShell
Speck’s MightyShell is a CandyShell on steroids. Sold in opaque versions, it also comes in a clear color, but differentiates itself from basic CandyShell models by offering the strongest protection Speck has ever built. It exceeds the requirements for MIL-STD-810G military-grade drop test standards by 2X, combining three protective layers in only 0.14” of added thickness. The walls compress with Speck’s shock-absorbing technology, Radial Impact Geometry, providing an anti-drop cushion for your iPhone. You can feel how strong and rigid it is when you hold it — it makes even the great CandyShell cases feel soft. Unlike most CandyShell versions, it has a matte texture, which prevents sliding on smooth surfaces. Some versions of MightyShell ship with faceplates that add additional protection if desired to your phone’s screen. You can buy MightyShell for $59.95.
All of the cases except the Faceplate-equipped MightyShell look very similar to each other from the front — and they’re all excellent. It’s really the rear designs, grips, and materials that distinguish them from one another. Check out Speck’s entire CandyShell and MightyShell case collection on their website!
