Galaxy S7 speed test indicates Exynos-powered models are faster than Snapdragon versions

Months before the Galaxy S7 was officially announced, rumors surrounding the device predicted that some regions would get a model equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon processor while other markets received an Exynos-powered version. Those rumors came to pass, and early benchmarks suggested that GPU performance was far better on the Snapdragon models than it was on the Exynos-equipped phones. In contradictory fashion, a couple of new comparison videos suggest those benchmark results were more than a little misleading.

Videos uploaded to YouTube, spotted by SamMobile, both seem to indicate that Galaxy S7/S7 Edge units with Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 processor load games and content faster than the Snapdragon models. Booting up games like Temple Run 2, Asphalt 8 and Fruit Ninja shows there’s a noticeable difference between the two phones.

Although there are a couple of apps which load data at similar speeds, most of the time, the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S7 Edge loads apps a few seconds slower than the Exynos 8890-equipped Galaxy S7 in Clickbuy’s video below. Similarly, another video by Vat Vo shows the same difference between two Galaxy S7 Edge units.

It’s interesting that there’s such an obvious difference between the models, especially when early benchmarks clearly indicated the opposite of what these real-life speed comparisons seem to show. Perhaps Samsung optimized performance on the devices to better take advantage of the Exynos, or maybe it’s down to those early rumors of overheating Snapdragon 820 processors. There’s also the possibility that it’s limited to just these particular units in Vietnam, and doesn’t reflect the performance you’ll find on US, European or other international variants.

Whatever the reason, those of you with Exynos models no longer need to feel hard done by, you might actually have the better phones.
