Acer Chromebook R13 goes up for pre-order starting at $399

Update: Now in stock at Amazon for $399

After being announced about one month ago, Acer’s new 13-inch Chromebook R13 convertible is now available for pre-order from multiple retailers (via ChromeUnboxed).

The Acer Chromebook R13 comes as a big brother to the popular Acer R11, picking up the same 360-degree display which allows the device to double as a tablet, something that’s especially useful for Android apps.

The Chromebook R13 also makes headlines as the first Chromebook powered by a chipset from MediaTek. Under the hood, you’ll find the MT8173 chipset with 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage. The full spec list follows.

  • MediaTek MT8173C Quad-core ARM® Cortex®
  • 13.3″ Full HD IPS Touch Display(1920×1080)
  • 4GB LPDDR3
  • 16/32/64 GB Storage
  • HDMIx1/USB-Cx2
  • Battery Life up to 12 hours

Acer has yet to officially reveal a list of retailers for the R13, but three outlets have jumped the gun and put the machine up for sale, although pricing varies between them. B&H Photo is the most reputable from the set, offering the R13 for $429 in its 4GB/64GB variant. PC Connection and Provantage are also offering the machine for $399, but in the 4GB/32GB variant, a price we previously saw on the 16GB model.
