OpenAI confirms May 13 event for ‘some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates’

Following a report that the company plans to launch a Google Search competitor next week, OpenAI has just confirmed a May 13 event for new “ChatGPT and GPT-4” updates.

In a post on Twitter/X this afternoon, OpenAI has confirmed it will host a live stream on May 13 to unveil “some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates.” The OpenAI website teases “Spring Updates” with demos of the new functionality.

It’s expected that the primary focus will be the company’s take on an AI-powered search engine.

OpenAI’s search engine is expected to work by effectively asking questions to ChatGPT with the chatbot bringing back answers with images citations from the web. It’s also expected that the service will be powered in part by Microsoft’s Bing search engine.

The event is scheduled exactly 24 hours prior to Google I/O 2024’s keynote, where Google is likely to unveil its latest AI products and advancements, many of which are likely to be tied into Search.
