Earlier this year, the Google Wallet app was updated to directly send purchase notifications, and there’s now a new icon for it.
Instead of the company ‘G’ logo, notifications for “Purchases” now use a wallet icon. It’s the same simplified version used by Google Wallet’s Quick Settings Tile, lockscreen shortcut, and Themed icon. The status bar icon is a bit on the small side, but it’s fine in the full notification.
The previous notification icon was a holdover from when Google Pay notifications were handled by Google Play services. It was quite generic, though it was eye-catching enough that you’d pull down to check if it was a more serious Google Account alert.
One upside of having the Google Wallet app handle it is how alerts can be bridged to Wear OS. The five other notification categories are: Passes, Promotional campaigns, Tips, Transit, and Updates & alerts.
This new purchase notification icon occurred with a recent update to the Google Wallet app, and we’re seeing it with version 24.37.678820861.
