Whoop has been regarded as one of the most advanced health-tracking bands you can wear that isn’t a smart watch or ecosystem-dependent. Even still, step counting has not been a feature – until today.
According to a press release from the company, Whoop has decided to add step counting to its tracking toolbox. Users have been demanding the feature, which makes sense, given that every major fitness tracking device on the market can count basic steps.
Whoop does give some reasoning for not including the feature, citing that step counting is an inaccurate vital measurement. The company prides itself on high-precision fitness tracking, so it would be reasonable to assume that step counting might not be of interest.
Whoop also notes that “recent studies have shown that daily step counts are closely linked to reduced risks of illnesses such as heart disease, obesity, and depression” as another reason for bringing the feature to users, though it’s a little more likely that user feedback might be what tipped the scale.
The update should be rolling out tomorrow, though Whoop says some may see the update as soon as today. The feature will automatically track steps when the band is worn on the wrist. The “My Dashboard” section will showcase your daily steps and will offer trend insight. Those trends will come in the form of weekly, monthly, and biannual trends.
