Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S10 and Tab A9 drive growth as Apple’s iPad stalls

As the tablet market is growing, Samsung is seeing success on the back of its latest flagship releases, as well as the more affordable Galaxy Tab A9.

A new report from IDC reveals that the global tablet market saw shipments increase by 20.4% compared to the prior year, with a total of around 39.6 million units shipped in Q3 2024 alone. Apple still makes up the vast majority of the market with its iPad models shipping 12.6 million in the quarter, a 31.7% share, but it’s not growing very quickly, as growth slowed to a mere 1.4%.

Meanwhile, various brands putting out Android tablets saw much bigger growth.

Amazon was the biggest winner, seeing over 111% YoY growth to ship 4.6 million units, while Lenovo also jumped just shy of 15% with 3 million units shipped. Huawei also managed to growth, with 3.3 million units shipped.

Samsung was the leader outside of Apple, though, with 7.1 million units shipped which represents 18.3% growth. IDC attributes this in part to the company’s latest launch of the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra, but the Galaxy Tab A9 series seems to have been the primary driver in “most regions.”

Samsung had a great 2Q24 with 7.1 million shipments and year-over-year growth of 18.3%. They launched more premium tablets during the quarter with the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S10+ with AI features. In Q3, their low-end Galaxy A9 models drove their sales across most regions. Commercial deployments also played a key role in driving shipments for Samsung.

The Galaxy Tab S10+, Tab S10 Ultra, and the Tab A9 series are available for purchase now.
