Samsung Wallet rolling out Digital Key support for Audi vehicles

Samsung Wallet is expanding the Digital Key feature for more vehicles built by Audi. The new support allows users to unlock compatible Audi vehicles without using a physical key – just Samsung Wallet.

The Digital Key feature has existed for some time now, with a good few cars already capable of utilizing the function. Models from manufacturers like Genesis, BMW, and Kia are already giving users the option to unlock their cars without using a key fob or physical key.

Today, Samsung announced that Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key function will now incorporate Audi vehicles among the list of compatible makers. The tool will, of course, be available through certain Galaxy devices.

Samsung provides a list of compatible Galaxy devices on its website. It looks like most devices that were released within the last four years or so are capable of this. This includes the Galaxy S20 series and Galaxy Z Fold 2, as well as the latest Galaxy S24 Ultra. The page also mentions that the function is on Android 13 and above, which is necessary to have installed.

Samsung notes that the digital keys can be shared with friends or family to allow access to the vehicle. Users will be able to both unlock/lock their car and start it through Samsung Wallet. The app also provides a button to open the trunk in some instances. As the key is through Samsung Wallet, there will be ways to access the key instantly on your phone, which makes for a smooth process.

As with any digital key, Samsung says it prioritizes safety. The key meets EAL6+ standards and utilizes a UWB connection to virtually shake hands with the care securely. If the Galaxy phone is stolen or lost, the key can be disabled through the Samsung Find service.

The company notes that Audi’s Digital Key feature will roll out in Samsung Wallet to users this month to those in Europe. A global rollout will be “aligned with the launch timeline of Audi vehicles.”
