Samsung has updated these Galaxy Watch models to Wear OS 5

The Galaxy Watch series is beginning to see the rollout of Samsung’s One UI 6, which is the company’s OS based one Google’s Wear OS 5. These devices have been updated to the new OS, with more to follow along.

What’s new in Wear OS 5 on Samsung Galaxy Watch?

Samsung’s One UI 6 software release for the Galaxy Watch series originally debuted on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra. Since that release, the version of One UI Watch has entered a beta phase and become available for the rest of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch models announced after the Wear OS collaboration.

Some models of the Galaxy Watch series are still waiting on the full official release – a release that brings quite a few changes.

One UI 6 doesn’t change a lot about how the UI looks on the series. Under the hood, it brings enhancements to health tracking and sleep management. For instance, a new Energy Score will be available for every user. That score, is essentially a blanket reading based on sleep, activity, and other data collected through the watch sensors.

Sleep also gets quite an overhaul. The Galaxy Watch series gets a Sleep Apnea feature that can actively look out for signs of the disorder. Once Samsung’s algorithm is convinced the user might be suffering from sleep apnea, it can offer suggestions to improve the users health. One suggestion will be exercise, which is also buffed in One UI 6.

Users are able to create custom workout routines in upgraded OS. The feature will make it easier for users to track specific routines rather than a generic one from the long list Samsung offers.

Samsung Galaxy Watch models with Wear OS 5

Other than the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, Samsung has finally begun to make some moves in implementing the OS for more devices, even if it took months to do so. The last couple of months have marked a shift for Samsung, which means more devices are starting to see Wear OS 5 and what it brings. Below is a list of all devices set to get One UI 6 based on Wear OS 5 at some point.

  • Galaxy Watch 7
  • Galaxy Watch Ultra
  • Galaxy Watch 6
  • Galaxy Watch 6 Classic
  • Galaxy Watch FE
  • Galaxy Watch 5
  • Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
  • Galaxy Watch 4
  • Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

As mentioned, the Galaxy Watch 7 was the first device to see One UI Watch 6. This was the first taste of the OS most had, though it was a long while before other models even saw a glimpse.

By late November, users began seeing an update to the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, followed by the Watch 6, both Bluetooth and LTE models. This rollout began in the US and slowly expanded to other regions. Now, the Galaxy Watch 6 series widely has support for One UI 6 Watch.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series is also seeing availability in Europe, though it doesn’t seem many more regions are getting the update for the time being. This extends to the Galaxy Watch FE, as well.

At the time of writing, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic still only have access to the update in its beta form, though it will likely become available sometime after the Watch 5 series gets a full rollout.

Will the Galaxy Watch 3 get One UI 6?

The Galaxy Watch 4 was the first device from Samsung to run a hybrid Wear OS platform that merged what Samsung’s Tizen had to offer with a lackluster wearable software. The Watch 4 breathed life into a watch line that was detrimentally proprietary, and at the same time, brought Wear OS back on track.

Unfortunately, that means that the Galaxy Watch 3 was left running Samsung’s proprietary OS, which makes it incompatible with any new One UI version from the company. In short, it also means that the Galaxy Watch 3 will not see One UI 6. Any version prior to that will not, either.

Every watch listed above should have seen an update for One UI 6 in some regions, while Samsung is still rolling out updates for others.
