Good news. The app drawer in Samsung’s One UI 7 update scrolls vertically now. Bad news. The app drawer also has a new watermark for Samsung Knox which cannot be turned off.
In the new One UI 7 update Samsung has made a lot of changes to the homescreen. You can adjust app icon size, there are new widgets, and you can also create larger folders too. Plus, the app drawer now defaults to a vertically scrolling list, finally catching up with the design that other Android makers have been using for years.
There are a lot of useful new features, but also one bizarre change.
In the app drawer, Samsung has added a prominent “Secured by Knox” watermark that appears in the bottom right corner, right above the search bar. This watermark shows at all times, even showing on top of app icons in the drawer.
The strange new addition doesn’t seem to serve any direct purpose, though it presumably has something to do with Knox protections over the apps you’re using. In any case, it’s a bit distracting, especially seeing as Samsung didn’t use this in previous versions.
Frustratingly, this can’t be turned off either.
This is only the first beta build of One UI 7 and there’s still plenty of time for this to change, but it’s certainly a bit of a sore point in what’s otherwise a pretty solid and feature-packed update.
