The December 2024 Feature Drop for Google Pixel devices was released last week with the QPR1 Android 15 update, but for some users, it’s causing issues with Android Auto.
Google’s latest Android 15 update for Pixel devices first rolled out in October, with the QPR1 maintenance release arriving on December 5 with some new features and various bug fixes. However, as is often the case, any update can also introduce new problems.
In the case of this latest update, some Google Pixel owners have found that Android Auto is no longer playing audio when connected to their cars. A thread on Google’s forums sees users with Pixel 9, Pixel 8, and Pixel 6 series devices all affected by the same issue – audio from music and podcast apps isn’t being passed through to the car.
Affected users largely mention using a USB connection, and report the issue across multiple apps including Spotify, Pocket Casts, and Tune In. We haven’t noticed the same issue on our end, and reports outside of this thread are slim, so it seems to be a relatively limited issue. It may also be intermittent, as one of the affected users mentioned that audio started working again a day or so later.

While Google hasn’t responded to those affected, a bug fix update will likely patch the problem.
