The Galaxy S24 series is still heavily discounted from Sasmung, but this is probably the last event before the company releases the Galaxy S25 lineup. Still, that doesn’t mean the S24 series will be any cheaper when the next generation comes around.
Samsung runs a yearly cycle of sales that deeply discounts its latest flagships. Those sales generally mean you can trade in your old device for a much more attractive price than what the company normally offers customers. Generally speaking, the newer the phone is, the more you’ll get when it’s traded in.
Right now, Samsung is running a winter sale that sets the Galaxy S24 Ultra at a nice discount for around $800 off. That includes a trade-in with an $800 return and a free storage upgrade. That’s a significant chunk off of a $1,300 phone, not even including the storage upgrade, which is a nice addition.
With that, Samsung’s exclusive online colors are discounted on top of everything else, which means a better deal. Let’s say you traded in an S23 Ultra; you’re looking at around $920 off. This is part of Samsung’s big winter sale, which extends across its website to other products like SD cards and TVs.
Should you wait for the Galaxy S25?
Samsung is about to announce the Galaxy S25 series, including the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra – the main reason Samsung is willing to discount the Galaxy S24 to the degree it is. We expect the Galaxy S25 series to carry a couple of improvements, namely Qi2. Still, storage configurations do not look like they’re changing much at all. So, if rumors hold up, the Galaxy S25 won’t be a far cry from the S24.
So that begs the question as to whether or not someone should upgrade to the current flagship – the Galaxy S24 series – or if they should wait.
Well, it’s a matter of preference, but one could argue to upgrade before the S25 is even announced. Samsung doesn’t seem to like running specials on older-generation devices, so if you want to order from the OEM itself, this is one of the last Galaxy S24 sales that’s likely to go on. After that, the phone will stagnate at a price higher than it reasonably should be.
It’s also important to note that the Galaxy S25 Ultra might be even more expensive than the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as may be the case with other devices in the lineup. It’s been reported that the Galaxy S25 might see a price hike due to import costs and changing exchange rates, though nothing is certain as of right now.
When the Galaxy S25 is released, it’s likely to go on pre-order with trade-in deals available. If you happen to trade in your Galaxy S24, you’ll see more out of the gate, even if you got it at a discounted rate. Still, Samsung tends to offer decent deals throughout the year that give users the chance to trade in their last-gen devices.
The Galaxy S24 series will continue to receive One UI 7 updates and will be among the first phones to receive One UI 8 when it launches in January.
