The OnePlus Open 2 is still a little ways away, but further leaks about the device are starting to pour in. Among what we already know, new rumors indicate that the OnePlus Open 2 will be waterproof to some degree and will come in a thinner package.
This has been an exciting year for foldable phones. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold was released and came in a very thin package that houses stock Android, while we also saw a foldable from Honor that broke barriers in terms of footprint. Next year is likely to be good, especially with the sequel to the OnePlus Open coming up.
According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, a few previously heard rumors are being corroborated, such as a newly bolstered battery and the presence of wireless charging. These were initially heard a couple of months ago and suggest a big jump in performance for the Find N3 clone.
In terms of new leaks, the OnePlus Open 2, based on the Oppo Find N5, will come with a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC housed in a folding IPX8 chassis. We’ve known about the presence of Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip, but the rating is new. This is a huge improvement for the series, considering the previous model only has IPX4 water resistance. In fact, most foldables on the market now don’t even hold up to that standard, which makes the entry commitment to buying a foldable a little more difficult.
The source also notes that the OnePlus Open 2 will house a 50MP periscope telephoto lens and an “anti-fall body structure,” which presumably indicates a strong hinge and overall build. It will be interesting to see what OnePlus/Oppo has come up with, as the companies have consistently been at the forefront of making improvements to the market.
If the OnePlus Open 2 does enter the market with a 5,700mAh battery, the newest flagship SoC, and IPX8 water resistance, it could truly dominate the market, even if it is small. The OnePlus Open paved the way with great software, multitasking abilities, and quality-of-life features that made it a joy to use. Hopefully, the second iteration will be nothing short of incredible.
