OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 13 and 13R on January 7. While the details on the OnePlus 13 are all but confirmed, the 13R still hides in the shadows. A new Amazon listing has confirmed which Snapdragon 8 chip the OnePlus 13R will use, along with some other clues.
Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 8 Elite a few months back, and it has since appeared on a couple of devices in the pipeline. One of those phones is the OnePlus 13, which the company confirmed would house Qualcomm’s latest chipset. The 13R, on the other hand, is going to be positioned as a budget device, so it wouldn’t be cost-effective to slap the latest SoC into it. The most reasonable guess would be the second-latest chip — the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The company prematurely posted an Amazon India listing for the OnePlus 13R, and promo material within the post confirms that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip will be part of the highly anticipated device (via GMSArena). To be clear, this chip was once Qualcomm’s flagship SoC, so nothing is disheartening about this leak. In fact, it cues a sigh of relief since the 13R is likely going to be a great value, though it’s too early to truly tell.
The listing also noted that OnePlus would be bringing “AI notes” to the device, something that’s expected at this point from any OEM aiming to stay relevant. The phone will likely bring much more than that, considering the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a purpose-built chipset for AI processing.
It was previously noted that the OnePlus 13R would also bring a 6,000mAh battery, which stirs further excitement for the device. More details are likely to emerge before the January 7 launch date, which lines up with CES 2025.
