2025 isn’t looking like a great year for Samsung’s foldables, as the company is reportedly not planning any major changes for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 despite shrinking sales.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 were good foldables, but they couldn’t keep up with the competition. As a result, Samsung’s sales have not exactly been hot, and it’s led to tempered expectations for 2025 as previously reported. While there have been some rumblings of new models and bigger displays, the latest info hints at small changes, if anything.
In an interview with The Elec, a representative for China-based company Fastprint (which makes circuit boards) explained that Samsung plans to slightly up production of the Galaxy S25 series, but that foldable efforts are staggering. That’s likely in part due to sales slumping, as @Jukanlosreve shared numbers from Hana Securities which reveals that total sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 have yet to surpass 5 million total units, down around 6% from the Fold 5 and Flip 5. Notably, though, the Fold 6 ended up selling slightly better compared to the Fold 5, as one bright spot for Samsung in the otherwise downturn.
The interview goes on to say that Samsung has no plans to bring big changes to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, instead saving “some changes” for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 in 2026.

There wasn't many major changes made since the move from 3 to 4. Updating the chip doesn't change much if everything else is still mediocre. The inner camera is still garbage, even though others have better inner cameras. The sinner screen is still getting the cracks that Sammy doesn't want to fix.
Want better sales? lower the price and make actual forward changes.
Went to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and am preferring it. The split screen is limited, but the other parts of the phone are great.

Looking only at Samsung Electronics’ foldable phone form factor, it seems that there will be some changes starting with the Z8 series that will be released in 2026, aside from the Galaxy Z7 series next year. It seems like Samsung Electronics’ strategy is to respond to the pursuit of Chinese foldable phones and the expected launch of Apple’s foldable products, but expectations have fallen significantly.
It was previously reported that Samsung may be exploring additional form factors for foldables, but we’ve not heard much regarding that in the time since. It does seem increasingly likely based on reports, though, that Samsung is planning to launch multiple variants of these foldables, with the “main” Fold 7 and Flip 7 not changing, but variants perhaps exploring new options, such as a thinner Fold. It’s still early, though, so some reports may not be reflected in Samsung’s finalized plans.
Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up for its Galaxy S25 launch event later this month which may also tease the Galaxy Ring 2 and new extended reality products.
