As 2025 gets underway, CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated to Googlers how the next few months will see new AI products and features.
In an email to employees seen by 9to5Google, Pichai on Wednesday alluded to “products and features [Google is] rolling out in the next few months.” There are no other details beyond noting that the “progress is amazing.”
We ended 2024 on a super high note with Gemini 2.0, Willow, Veo 2, and lots of innovation across Search, YouTube, Cloud, Android, Pixel, and more. The foundation to all of this is our technical and AI leadership, made possible by our full stack approach, and people were inspired by what we built.
As we start the year, I have been reviewing demos for the products and features we’re rolling out in the next few months. The progress is amazing, and I’m confident we will keep the momentum going in 2025.
Just today, Google started testing “Daily Listen” in Search Labs as a personalized podcast that talks about the stories and topics you’re interested in.
Meanwhile, Google in December said that Gemini 2.0 Flash will enter general availability for developers in January. Hopefully, that will coincide with 2.0 Flash in the Gemini app dropping the “Experimental” status. We’re also waiting to find out what “2.0 Experimental Advanced” for paid subscribers will end up being when it launches.
Additionally, NotebookLM Plus is coming to Google One subscribers in “early 2025.” More broadly, Gemini 2.0 is coming “to more Google products,” like AI Overviews in Search, early this year.
That “next few months” time frame also lines up with Google I/O, which is traditionally at the start of May.
Pichai’s note to Googlers also emphasizes the “urgency of this moment, how rapidly technology is evolving, and our opportunity to reimagine our products and processes for a new era.” The letter ends with a message about how “thousands of Googlers are dealing with devastating wildfires across Southern California.”
Google has started an employee matching program, while the Google.org philanthropic arm “will support relief and recovery efforts with funding.” The company published a post this evening detailing efforts:
People in the affected areas can access SOS Alerts (example), Public Alerts and wildfire boundaries across Google Search and Maps. Road closure information is available on both Google Maps and Waze, with Waze also providing emergency shelter locations. These alerts and resources are continuously updated to provide critical safety information from authoritative sources.
