Samsung capped its Unpacked event today with a teaser for its upcoming thin smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge. At the San Jose event, we were able to get a quick look at the Galaxy S25 Edge, including a few details about the device.
The Galaxy S25 Edge isn’t launching alongside the rest of the company’s new smartphones, but is perhaps the most exciting as, for the first time in a while, Samsung actually managed to keep this thing under wraps.
At Samsung’s San Jose event, the company had Paul Bettany, the voice of JARVIS and Vision in the MCU, voice the reveal of its latest device. A product experience area was then opened and, in the back, a crowd quickly formed around Samsung’s upcoming smartphone. Samsung didn’t permit anyone to touch the Galaxy S25 Edge, but did show the device.
We quickly noticed the slim profile of the Edge. That’s obviously as Samsung intended, as the phone was shown from the side with Galaxy S23 and S24 mockups standing next to it to shown the difference in thickness.
From the front, the display looks to be about as large as the Galaxy S25+, as reported, with slim bezels. The back is where you’ll find some departures from the rest of the series though. The camera module is different, and there are only two cameras too. They look very similar to Apple’s camera design on the iPhone 16 as well.
While Samsung kept details very light during its event, representatives did mention two key bits of information around the device from the event space. For one, the thickness is roughly 6mm. Previous rumors pinpointed 6.4mm, but that spec was accompanied by @OnLeaks renders that are not reflective of the actual product, as those renders showed the “Slim” with three cameras and a different design versus what Samsung showed off today. It was also mentioned that the Edge will be quite a bit lighter than the rest of the S25 series.
The other key detail is the Galaxy S25 Edge’s release date. Apparently, the device is coming “around” April, a Samsung representative said. This is in line with previous reporting, which suggested a launch as soon as April or May 2025.
As a side note, I’m personally not a fan of the branding here. “Edge” was already used in the past by Samsung in drastically different context, and it feels like a cheap play to reuse it on a device that’s just thinner. “Edge” doesn’t even fit with the idea of something thin in the first place. But, ultimately, there aren’t many good names here.
Are you looking forward to the Galaxy S25 Edge?
