Samsung is reportedly calling its upcoming tri-fold smartphone the “Galaxy G Fold,” a confusing decision considering its existing branding.
It’s no secret that Samsung is working on a new type of foldable that packs a much bigger display. This “tri-fold” device is expected to be similar to Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, which unfolds like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but then has an extra segment to its display that can be unfolded for a wider and larger display.
Samsung even teased the device during its latest Unpacked event, calling it a “multi-fold” device.
According to Lanzuk on Naver, Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone won’t fit into the Galaxy Z series, though, instead being called the “Galaxy G Fold.”
The naming scheme is unclear, especially seeing as the “Z” in Samsung’s existing foldable lineup already fits a tri-fold smartphone.
The device, which is apparently set to be unveiled later this year ahead of a launch in early 2026, will supposedly have a display that measures 9.96-inches when fully unfolded, being 6.54-inches tall. Unlike Huawei’s device, though, the screen would unfold from both sides, rather than in sequence. This could explain the naming scheme. The “G Fold” is also said to be thicker than Huawei’s device.
