Our yearly Google Pixel user survey is complete, and we now know just what devices you use daily, with some very surprising results…
The easy guess ahead of time would be that the latest Google flagship phone will come out on top. That is a pretty fair assumption given that the top-tier handset has been your choice for a number of years. However, it isn’t quite that simple this time around.
Almost 18,000 of you responded to our original poll, and as we have alluded to; most interesting talking point is that the Pixel 8 Pro remains the most popular device, with 11.83% of you out there using 2023’s biggest and best Google smartphone. Reader Son of Dad isn’t coy in claiming that the Pixel 8 Pro as the “best looking Pixel to date” and it’s clear a lot of people agree with them.

The 8 Pro edged out the Pixel 9 Pro XL as the most popular device with you. Just 9.97% of 9to5Google readers are actually using the biggest Pixel flagship to date. Now, third on your most-used list is the Pixel 7 Pro, with 8.91% of those responding to our poll saying they’re still rocking 2022’s best Google phone.
That means the three most recent Google flagship phones account for the most users, but the order is a little out of sync with what we expected. Reader William claims that he “can’t live without this camera” when talking about the 7 Pro and also praised how well it has held up over the past couple of years.

Propping up the top 3 is the Pixel 7. Yes, 8.29% of you are still using the middle child Pixel 7 series device. Interestingly, nobody offered a reason why but it’s still a great device that is getting updated for another couple of years, making it a steal even on the used market.
The final entry into the top 5 most used is the Pixel 9 Pro. Which, interestingly, was our readers’ choice device for 2024. Google’s first out-and-out small flagship phone was not the most used, but if we get more smaller options maybe it’ll skyrocket up the usage charts in the coming years.
After that, the Pixel 6 is supposedly still used daily by 7.09% of while the newer Pixel 8 has less with just 6.98% saying they are rocking 2023’s bargain Made by Google handset. Some older hardware, including the Pixel 6a, 6 Pro, and 7a, round out our top 10 usage figures with 6.44%, 5.20%, and then a dip to 3.83%, respectively.

Grabbing a noticeable slice of the pie at 3.63%, we’ve got the Google Pixel 9. That makes sense, being one of the newer flagship devices; people are often keen to jump on the latest and greatest. Not too far behind, clocking in at 3.40%, is the Pixel 8a. The ‘A’ series has always been a bit of a sweet spot, offering a good chunk of the Pixel experience without breaking the bank, so it’s no surprise to see it holding a strong position. Then you’ve got the Pixel 9 Pro Fold at 2.36%, showing that there’s definitely an interest in those foldable devices, even if they’re still a bit niche.
There are always people who will hold on to their smartphones for a long period, and that is very respectable. It’s always great to see or hear the older guard is still kicking around. The Google Pixel 5, for instance, is still in the hands of 1.79% of users, which is a testament to how well-built and liked some of these older models are despite lots of hardware foibles over the years.
My personal favorite Pixel – the 4a – only accounts now for 1.41% of you out there reading. Reader smileyhead is still proudly rocking the diminutive device, but said they’ll be looking to upgrade to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold or the 10 Fold when that arrives in the coming months. That would be a great choice for entertainment and productivity.
And it’s always amusing to see the spread further down the list, with various iterations and even some of the XL versions still popping up. It just goes to show that people hold onto their phones for a variety of reasons, whether it’s because they still do the job perfectly well or they simply haven’t felt the need to upgrade. And then there’s that little group, 1.30% of you, just patiently “Waiting for upcoming Google Pixel hardware” – you guys could just be looking for that perfect upgrade!
