Google Pixel Camera 9.9 rolls out: Social Share removed, icon tweaks

Google is widely rolling out an updated version of Pixel Camera 9.9 today with a pair of changes.

This slightly newer version of the app (9.9.106.773153235.19 vs. 9.9.106.767010485.16) is still missing Social Share. As such, the removal appears to be intentional.

You can no longer swipe up on the circular preview of your last photo to send it to compatible apps. Up to three targets, as well as Quick Share, could be selected in Settings. This is an unfortunate deprecation, but the loss of WhatsApp earlier this year already negated its usefulness for some, if not most, people.

Pixel Camera 9.9 also sees Google tweak the Timer icons to improve the visibility of the 3, 5, and 10 numerals.

Don't know if this would fall into "educational mode"...

But a possible suggestion to incorporate AI (cause that has to be in everything now)...

How about an AI assistant that could suggest possible ways to frame the photo, different settings to enable etc to improve the image... Like suggesting to move the person slightly off center or whatever to make the shot a little more interesting

9.8 vs. 9.9

As of today, we’re not seeing the “education hub” that was announced as part of the June 2025 Feature Drop. Available for the Pixel 6 and newer, Google will presumably roll it out as a server-side update.

Once available, the Camera viewfinder will always show a question mark in the top-right corner. Tapping lets you “Explore ways to take photos,” with Examples and How to instructions for every mode.

Pixel Camera 9.9 started rolling out earlier this month, and this update is now seeing wide availability via the Play Store.
