Following the news that OnePlus and Hasselblad are breaking up their partnership, the first camera samples from OnePlus 15 instill confidence that the next device will still be a photographic contender.
In the Chinese version of its blog post about the end of the Hasselblad partnership and debut of its “Lumo” imaging system (apparently called “DetailMax Engine” in other regions), OnePlus shared a trio of images from the OnePlus 15.
These new pictures are all from the 85mm-equivalent telephoto lens and, well, they look pretty great.

I'm happy to hear about an improved telephoto, since a quality telephoto is one of the reasons I bought the OnePlus 12 last year.
I was hoping the new model would get a telephoto similar to the Oppo Find X8 Ultra or the vivo X200 Ultra, but the Oppo has a 70mm f/2.1 with a large 1/1.56" sensor, and the vivo has an 85mm f/2.3 with a slightly larger 1/1.4" sensor. If the OnePlus 15 has an f/2.8 lens, then it's going to be at a disadvantage to those other two phones, unless it has a larger sensor, which is probably too much to hope for. However, the Sony LYT-818 sensor, which vivo uses for some of its cameras, is 1/1.28", so who knows.
For comparison, my OnePlus from 2024 has a 70mm f/2.6 with a 1/2.0" sensor. It takes very nice photos, but the newer vivo and Oppo are better. Unfortunately I'm in the US, so Vivo and Oppo are not options. But as soon as somebody brings one of these large-sensor, large aperture telephotos to the US, I'm buying it.
The image of the ram is very sharp, while the photo with the dog has plenty of text and color in it. The last image of a woman holding flowers is the least impressive of the bunch, but only because of some chromatic aberration at the side. The colors of the image are vibrant and look grea otherwise.

At NotebookCheck points out, this teaser also hints that OnePlus is upgrading its telephoto lens this year, as the OnePlus 13 had a 73mm-equivalent instead.
