Movies Anywhere was one of the unintended casualties faced during Google and Disney’s brief feud throughout October and November, but as promised, both Google Play and YouTube have returned to the movie syncing service.
Disney — which owns Movies Anywhere — quietly removed Google as a partner from the service around the time a broadcasting agreement for Disney-owned channels on YouTube TV ended without renewal. Although the cable outage only lasted a couple of weeks, Movies Anywhere users have had to make do without Google Play or YouTube support for nearly two months now. However, as of today, Google is back as a partner service, and you can reconnect your account with just a couple of clicks.
Affected users should receive an email announcing the return of both Google Play and YouTube on the platform. Clicking this link (the URL seen in the first photo above) is the fastest way to restore service — just log into your account, click the “Connect” button on the next page, select your chosen Google account, and you’re all set.
If you don’t receive this email, though, you can still manage your connections from within Movie Anywhere’s account preferences. Head over to the main Movies Anywhere homepage, log into your account, then select Settings from the dropdown menu in the top-right corner. Select Manage Retailers from the sidebar, then click the Connect button next to Google’s listing. From there, the steps should basically follow the same flow described above.
It does appear that everyone will need to reconnect these two services; although my library was still functionally synced when Google was initially removed, my account today showed a complete sever.
With Disney movies back on Google services and Google having returned to Movies Anywhere, the great Google-Disney feud of 2025 appears to be over. Then again, who knows — maybe Disney isn’t all too happy about losing the Oscars to YouTube starting in 2029.
