The holiday shopping season is just about over, but if you’re still looking for an easy gift — for you or yourself — and you don’t mind waiting, the OnePlus Pad Go 2 is now available for order.
At $399, the OnePlus Pad Go 2 is positioned almost perfectly between something like the base model $329 iPad and the more expensive iPad Air lineup. That might sound like an odd comparison over rival tablets from Samsung or even Google’s aging Pixel Tablet, but one glance at the Pad Go 2 gives the game away. Although it’s sporting the usual unique 12.1-inch 7:5 aspect ratio display we expect from OnePlus at this point, practically everything else about its design — up to and including large portions of OxygenOS — feel ripped directly from Apple’s playbook.
Of course, that doesn’t make it a bad tablet option — just a derivative one. I’ve been testing the OnePlus Pad Go 2 for the last couple of weeks, and while my review isn’t ready quite yet (look for it after the holidays), it’s far from a bad option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly slate with a big, bright screen. You’ll need to accept some shortcomings, including a set of pretty mediocre speakers, but if all you’re after is a high-res display, a beefy battery with decent charging speeds, and fast-enough performance for everyday use, it’s not easy to beat on the Android side of things.
The OnePlus Pad Go 2 appears to be exclusively available through the company’s storefront for the time being, without options for Amazon or Best Buy, so if you were hoping to spend some newly-acquired gift cards on your purchase, well, it’s likely not happening. The good news, though, is that you can score a free folio case or stylus at checkout, a $45 and $70 value, respectively. Additional accessories can be bundled for 30% off, and all trade-ins deliver at least a $30 instant credit, regardless of condition.
