Amazon Fire TV redesign rolling out next month and it’s literally a Google TV clone [Gallery]

Amazon is rolling out a new Fire TV homescreen redesign that, well, looks a whole lot like Google TV.

Announced at CES 2026, Amazon says that it is redesigning Fire TV “to be cleaner, faster, and better organized.” And it does certainly look like that is the case. Amazon’s preview images show the new design with navigation across the top bar, featured content taking up the bulk of the main page, a row of content recommendations below that, and then a horizontally scrolling list of apps installed on the TV.

Sound familiar?

It’s pretty hard to ignore that the new Amazon Fire TV design is exactly what we see on Google TV. There are obviously some minor design tweaks and feature changes, right down to the “Fire TV” logo in the top right corner, just like Google TV.

The updated experience is even adding a new long-press shortcut for the Home button on Fire TV remotes which opens up a panel that includes quick settings and smart home device management – exactly like Google TV.

Amazon further adds that the new design makes the experience 20-30% faster, and also allows for users to pin more apps to the homescreen. 20 apps can be shown, up from just 6 on the previous design.

Amazon says:

The new UI has a more modern design with improved layouts, rounded corners, redesigned color gradients, updated typography, and more optimized spacing. The update isn’t just aesthetic: The team rebuilt the underlying code to make the experience faster. In some cases, we’re seeing up to 20–30% gains in speed when using the new UI. All of these improvements will be available to customers with a free software update.

With the redesign, we’re also increasing the number of apps you can pin to your home screen from six to 20. But the Fire TV experience is much more than just an app launcher. Now you can press the Menu button on your remote to quickly get to Games, Art & Photos, and the Ambient Experience. And with Amazon Photos on Fire TV, it’s easy to connect your personal photos so they show up beautifully on the biggest screen in your home.

Here’s what the Fire TV homescreen looked like previously:

Beyond the big-screen experience, Fire TV’s mobile app is also getting a redesign that allows users to browser content, manage their watchlist, and play titles on their TV alongside acting as a secondary remote – again exactly like Google TV.

Amazon says the new Fire TV homescreen redesign is rolling out starting in February, and the mobile app upgrade will come around the same time. The update will land on Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series in the US before expanding to other devices and regions later.

Meanwhile, Amazon is also introducing the “Ember Artline” TV series, which is similar to Samsung’s The Frame, offering an art focus and interchangeable bezel options. Pricing starts at $899 with options ranging from 55-inches to 65-inches in size.
