Your Pixel might be buggy after latest Google Play system update

A Google Play system update is rolling out to Pixel owners, and we’ve noticed across several devices that the install process is a bit buggy.

This “Google Play system update” features the “Latest security update from Google.” Coming in at 15 MB, the description says to “Update now to keep safe and improve device stability.” This is a generic message and there are no other details. The update went wide yesterday.

The vast majority of Pixel users are on the “November 1, 2025” Google Play system update. (There was no December update.) After installing, you remain on a November release.

Across the Pixel 10 series, we noticed some issues after installing and performing the mandated restart. In the case of our Pixel 10 Pro, the screen remained black after the boot sequence — which felt longer than usual — completed. However, we still felt haptic feedback when long-pressing the power button. Functionality returned to normal after plugging in to power, but performing a reboot would have been the other solution:

If your phone is frozen with the screen on, hold down the power button for about 30 seconds to restart.

With a Pixel 10, we were able to unlock with a passcode as usual, but the Pixel Launcher did not fully load. As such, we were stuck with just seeing the wallpaper and no other system UI, including the status bar. However, we were able to long-press for the power menu and reboot. There were no issues afterwards.

On a Pixel 10 Pro Fold and other Pixel 9 series devices, the reboot process felt like it took a hair longer than usual, but there were no other obvious issues.

After the initial reboot hang, the phones in question have been performing normally.
